Installation
Sunrise to sunset, I work in the synagogue, sequencing and installing my works for Destruction Is and Is Not Forever, which opens on Thursday, May 15th at 16:00h.
Light licks the floors. Slowly, then in brightening streaks. Strange animal, rapture. I pant for heaven. Tongue wags my mouth like a dog; my soul runneth over.
The works arrange themselves in mimicry to the way they were produced. Each piece tells me where it will go. Like a word, like a letter. Up down the ladder with elation. No language, only gesture. Can’t speak Latvian. Can’t speak Russian. Hand up, hand down, yes. I’m ragged with inexplicable joy and inexplicable wound. And me listening. And me remembering. Remembering, my grandmother. How it moves. It is perfect.
